MOST WORSHIPFUL GRAND MASTER
KRISTJAN (KRIS) LAURENCE GOODMANSON

M.W. Bro. Kristjan (Kris) was born November 02, 1951 in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Kris moved to Winnipeg at the age of 4 and as the oldest of four children grew up attending elementary, junior and senior high schools in East Kildonan. He attended Grace Lutheran Church (which is located next door to the East Kildonan Masonic Temple) for over 35 years where his father, Harald, who was also a Freemason, was the Senior Choir Director. It was at Grace Lutheran that Kris met his Lady Rita. Although they went their separate ways shortly after high school, Rita and Kris reconnected seven years ago and now live in East St. Paul.

Kris spent more than 10 years learning about his Icelandic heritage while volunteering with his father at “Islendingadagurinn” or as many Manitobans recognize it, the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba. Many August long weekends were spent in Gimli entertaining the thousands of visitors coming to enjoy the Icelandic history of our fair Province.

After graduating high school, Kris followed in his Dad’s footsteps and entered the electrical trade, working for 5 years as an electrician’s helper before moving on to Manitoba Hydro. Kris stayed with Hydro for almost 10 years working in the warehouse before finishing his Hydro career in the Marketing Department. In 1982 Kris moved to the Provincial Government, where he started with the Department of Tourism before moving into his current position as an Employment Liaison Officer with Employment Manitoba.

Kris has two grown daughters, Kyla and Alea, who are both planning weddings this year. Alea will be returning from Austin, Texas to take her vows in July 2010, with Kyla to say “I do” on a warm beach in Mexico in January 2011. The girls, now in their late twenties, were born March 03rd, 2 years to the day apart and continue to be an important part of their Dad’s life.

Kris’ Masonic journey began with his initiation into Capitol Lodge No. 136 on March 9,1990. After being raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason (along with his brother Thor), he progressed through the chairs to become Master in 2000. Kris spent one year in the 13th District line when he was appointed in 2006 to a one year term on the Board of General Purposes by M.W.Bro. George Forzley. He was re-elected to the Board the following year, where he worked on the Education and Training Committee, and was elected Junior Grand Warden in 2007. Kris has held the office of Treasurer for Capitol Lodge for the past 8 years.

In 2009, Kris became a 32nd degree member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Winnipeg, however, his most ambitious plan as a Freemason began when he was Senior Grand Warden. In January 2009, the Board of General Purposes approved his idea to encourage Freemasons from all corners of the globe to support a campaign to raise funds to support human rights, but more particularly the construction of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. The “Just a Buck” campaign encourages Freemasons from Jurisdictions here and abroad to donate “Just a Buck” to this project. This one of a kind Museum is scheduled to open in Winnipeg in the summer of 2012 and Kris and his Committee continue to work with Museum officials in the hope the Grand Lodge of Manitoba may be granted the distinguished opportunity to lay the Museum cornerstone.
